About PropTrend

PropTrend is a small project aiming to make macro-level Australian real estate data more easily accessible. Source data is drawn mainly from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), and a few other publicly available sources, interpolated where necessary, with minor transformations applied to produce a continuous dataset up to the present.

Forecasts five years into the future are generated using additive exponential smoothing with a linear trend. This method extends historical trends forward in time without introducing seasonal components or damping. It captures persistent upward or downward momentum in the data, providing a transparent and interpretable projection consistent with observed pricing dynamics.

In future updates, PropTrend will also include alternative forecasting models to allow users to compare different methodologies and better understand the uncertainty in forward projections.

The idea arose from the difficulty of finding high-level, clean, and publicly accessible property market data presented in a usable format.

This site is under development. More tools and data visualisations are coming soon.
